Our Impact Commitment
Last updated: April 17, 2026
Origin Pour is a for-profit specialty-coffee business with a cause-marketing commitment: a portion of every bag sold supports community projects at coffee's origin. This page sets out the full material terms of that commitment so every customer has access to the details — even when our marketing copy stays general.
The commitment
For every bag of coffee sold, $1 CAD is committed to a nonprofit partner operating in coffee-growing communities. This is a hard per-bag commitment — not "up to," not "of profit." Every bag, every time.
Our nonprofit partner
Our selected partner is charity:water (charitywater.org), a global nonprofit funding clean-water projects in communities that grow coffee — including Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya, and other origins featured in our catalog. charity:water operates on a 100% donation model: every dollar we transfer reaches a water project.
Formal partnership outreach is in progress as of April 2026. Until the partnership is confirmed and the first monthly transfer clears, committed dollars are held in trust — never kept as profit, never redirected. If the charity:water partnership cannot be formalized, we will transfer the held amounts to a comparable partner (World Coffee Research or a similar coffee-community-focused nonprofit) and update this page publicly with the change.
How the cycle works
- You place an order. Every paid coffee bag automatically adds $1 CAD to our committed total.
- First business day of each month. We compute the prior month's bag count × $1 CAD, transfer that amount to the nonprofit partner, and file the donation receipt.
- We publish the receipt. Every monthly receipt is archived and referenced here, so the dollars-paid-out number on our homepage counter can be independently verified.
- Refunds decrement the counter. If an order is refunded, the corresponding bag count is subtracted to avoid over-reporting.
Live reporting
The Impact Counter on our homepage shows three live numbers that update as orders ship:
- Bags Shipped — total paid coffee bags shipped, lifetime.
- Cups Poured — estimated brewed cups (bags × 24, a conservative average for a 12 oz bag).
- Communities Reached — distinct origin communities funded through the partner's work.
The counter's fine print also surfaces the named partner, dollars paid out to date, and the last-updated timestamp.
What we do not claim
We want to be precise about what the $1/bag commitment is and isn't:
- We do not claim "direct trade" or "farm-direct" — our coffee is sourced through importers and our dropshipping roast partner, not purchased from farms directly.
- We do not claim to travel to origin. That's a future commitment (see our business roadmap).
- We do not claim specific outcomes (e.g., "$1 = one month of clean water" or "$1 = one tree planted"). We commit the dollar; our partner allocates it to whatever water project best serves the need.
Legal framing
Origin Pour is a Canadian sole proprietorship, not a registered charity. The dollar commitment is a marketing pledge backed by a contractual practice, not a charitable solicitation. Our commitment is to customers — you — to route a dollar from your bag to an eligible nonprofit as described above. If the selected partner ever stops being able to accept the commitment, we replace them and publicly update this page.
This page sets out the full material terms of our cause-marketing commitment in line with guidance from Canada's Competition Bureau on truthful marketing and disclosure. Any marketing copy on our site that references "community projects at origin," "impact-driven," or similar language refers back to the commitment described here.
